Pre-Trip Spain

8-12 October 2007: Malaga, Spain

We had initially planned to meet Ross' parents and sister at a time share in Benalmadena (near Malaga), on the Costa Del Sol in southern Spain, before heading across to Morocco from Gibraltar nearby. Working desperately to complete everything in time to start the drive down, we realised that amoungst other reasons, the UK postal strike had scuppered that plan.

We still needed to receive our Carnet De Passages for the vehicle, our vehicle insurance certificate, our personal insurance documents and a spare battery for the Canon 400D. These were all being held up in the postal system somewhere.

The decision was therefore made to book a "cheap" flight to Malaga for the week and relax a little in the sun for the first time in ages, while spending good quality time with family. This took some of the stress and urgency out of the trip preparation.

We arrived in Malaga to a fantastic reception by Ron, Maureen, Caron and Mark, all wearing their smart new "Duzi2 Adventure" t-shirts. Seeing as we were wearing ours too, this started looking like a small touring sports group or something.

We spent five lovely days walking and driving around the Costa del Sol region as well as spending valuable relaxation time just snoozing, swimming and strolling along the beach. The place we were all staying at, Sahara Sunset, was fantastic too.

It was exactly what we needed, to take our minds off everything that still had to be taken care of in England before the drive.

After a very sad goodbye to Ross' mom and dad who were flying back to SA, we set off back to where Duzi2 was patiently waiting for us in Twickenham. Caron and Mark flew to London a little later as a quick stopover before heading back to Perth.
